Martin currently attends the University of Florida, where he studies geography. He was lucky to have been part of the team that started the UF Pickleball Club and enjoys representing his university. Martin has competed for his school in various tournaments, and his hard work and dedication paid off when he won one of their first tournaments, the Atlantic Intercollegiate Major.
Martin discovered pickleball through a close friend and has since fallen in love with the sport, particularly the welcoming and tight-knit community. What tends to set Martin apart from others is his positive and upbeat attitude both on and off the court. He believes that laughter and having fun is just as important as winning and this mindset has made him a well-liked and respected player among his peers. Martin shared, “If you’re not having fun, you’re not really winning.”
Martin originally gravitated towards Phantom because of its cool graphics, but he now loves the brand because of the amazing gear and supportive team. Martin uses the Goliath paddle. “It is the perfect combination of power and control. The 16mm core allows me to make precise shots and drops,” says Martin. After graduation, Martin hopes to go pro and is eager to share his love for the sport with others by doing some coaching and helping players improve their skills. With his talent, passion, and positive attitude, Martin Michelsen is a player to watch out for in the world of pickleball.
